Middle School Writing Program
Program Description: This intensive 42-hour program is designed to help middle school students develop the essential skills in narrative, descriptive, persuasive, and expository writing. They will use the six-traits approach to learn, practice, and thoroughly understand how to write effectively. Throughout the 14 sessions of class, students will analyze model texts, participate in group learning activities, receive ongoing teacher feedback, and actively engage in the process of planning, writing, and revising. In addition to daily exercises in writing mechanics and conventions, students will read a required novel and complete a portfolio of six writing assignments. Elements of Columbia University's Teachers College Reading and Writing Project (TCRWP) are integrated in the writing program.

Powerful Readers and Communicators
Program Description: Powerful Readers and Communicators is an intensive 42-hour program designed for international school students in grades 5-7 to become more effective in critical reading, persuasive writing, and public speaking. Students will analyze texts in non-fiction and fiction, develop critical thinking skills through the process of writing, actively engage in public speaking opportunities, and receive targeted feedback. Additionally, they will apply these skills through the completion of a literary essay and a public speaking project. Elements of Columbia University's Teachers College Reading and Writing Project (TCRWP) and John Hopkin's Center for Talented Youth are integrated in the program.
